Carson is a safe and welcoming environment. The administration and staff are always looking for ways to help students succeed while enjoying their time at school. Id recommend this school without hesitation.

My rating has improved over the last year with this school. My son came from a charter school 3 previous years before, so it seems that compared to his peers at this school, hes performing well above average. The communication between staff and parent concerning student performance is lacking when it comes to good performance. Its like they leave your kid alone, which is not favorable if you find your child in a position where they should probably be tested and placed into advanced classes. It took me a long time to find out that my son was bored nearly the entire year and spent most of his class time helping other students or twiddling his thumbs because he was only allowed to get 2 assignments ahead. He didnt have any homework the entire year. As a result and at my cost, my son had to take 2 classes over the summer through MDLP so he could jump into advanced classes for 8th grade. The website still lacks current information, which Ive requested a couple times that they clean up their website. Teacher wise, my son liked all of his teachers and it seems the teachers and substitutes liked him. Student wise, he was bullied for a while by several students; all from the same ethnicity which is the majority in this school. He is a minority in this school, but it seems like that backed off on its own without any interference from me and it helped that he knows some spanish. Some of those students have since gotten into trouble or hurt from altercations with other students they bullied. He frequently comments about other students talking about dropping out of school, the slackers who want to partner up for projects so they dont have to work, or about some of them with ankle bracelets. He has complained several times about teachers not accommodating his requests to move seats away from students who try to cheat off him, which I think is pretty sad. I think most bad ratings for this school may be because of the students themselves, and not necessarily the teachers or staff. Could their processes use more improvement? Sure. If we were in a better situation to live near more accommodating school, we would be there, but youve gotta make the best out of what you have. Your student is going to get what they put into their own education and its a parental responsibility to stay on top of that.

This school had a turn around with the new principal, Ray Chavez, who fired over half the previous staff when it was realized the school was failing. The programs offered to the 7th and 8th graders are amazing. They have a swimming pool, electronics lab with a 3D printer, choir, band, sports and a PE program that is all encompassing. I am very happy that my child will be attending this school.
