This school is one of the most impressive you'll ever attend or have your kid enroll in. The teachers are warm and friendly; they don't just see you as a student but get to know who you really are. This place provides an extraordinary and unforgettable high school experience; if that's what you want for yourself or your child, this is the place for them!

Attending Sky Islands is not something I would advise anyone to do. Sandi, the co-director of the school, has no real interest in her students and merely enjoys controlling them. Neither the director or co-director uphold the school's core values such as gardening and environmental preservation; they rarely leave their office. On a positive note, although there are issues with administration, the teachers are great and so is the concept of this school. Unfortunately these problems with administration ruin one's experience at Sky Islands.

My daughter has always been a top-notch student, earning her place on the honor roll, AP classes and more, yet she still felt that school had no relevance to her life. We looked into Basis, University High and other schools but realized they wouldn't be enough to prepare her for college. We are so pleased we found Sky Islands; it's far better than any college prep school in terms of teaching skills such as critical thinking, self-direction and self-advocacy as well as having a curriculum based in reality. Furthermore, students are able to apply what they learn in class outdoors which builds teamwork abilities and real-world problem solving. These abilities will prove invaluable for college life and beyond! The teachers are outstanding too; my daughter comes home every night buzzing about all she learned at school - quite the difference from before! She is thoroughly engaged with her studies due to being both challenged by them and enjoying them. The administration team is remarkable too; Dr Popen's vision should be emulated by all schools while Sandi makes sure each student is counselled properly regarding their academic progress and future plans. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for an intellectually stimulating learning environment for their kids - my only sorrow is that not more people know about it!
